When publisher Playdigious told The Apple TV Gaming Blog in a world exclusive reveal back in August that Dead Cells was coming to Apple TV, no date was given.
And so the wait began for this critically acclaimed action-platformer from Motion Twin to hit Apple’s lounge room hardware, bringing its Dark Souls-influenced combat to our big screens.
The wait has been made quite bearable thanks to the arrival of the all-you-can-eat gaming banquet that is Apple Arcade, leaving Apple TV gamers spoilt for choice as to what to play next (and if you’re in that enviable position of not knowing where to start with Apple Arcade’s offerings, then you could always follow in ATVG’s footsteps and check out the first four games I played)
Well, the wait is over, and now it will be a case of Apple TV gamers having to divide their time over yet another quality title, as Dead Cells has landed on Apple TV today.
It’s been a few weeks since ATVG has posted any stories that are not Apple Arcade-related, but a Dead Cells announcement is a pretty nice way to break that run.
The icing on the cake with the arrival of Dead Cells to tvOS is that it comes as a universal app, meaning that those who’ve already purchase the title on iOS or iPadOS will find they now also own a copy of Dead Cells for Apple TV, at no extra cost. Big screen or small, Dead Cells is playable across all your devices.
Also, with tvOS 13 you’ll be able to get full control over your Dead Cells avatar with your PS4 or Xbox controller, as those devices are now compatible with Apple TV. For more information on controller compatibility, check out ATVG’s recent story right here. Also, in a fun side note, did you know that PS4 controllers turn the colour of Apple Arcade when connected to an Apple TV?
With Apple Arcade, universal compatibility of games, popular controller support, and the arrival of quality titles like Dead Cells, Apple TV gaming feels like it’s on a pretty big upswing at the moment.
ATVG will get hands on with Dead Cells as soon as possible, and you can check out the trailer below.
If you’re after any advice for survival, then Motion Twin has this to offer: “Roll, roll, roll, and then roll some more.”
If you’re new to The Apple TV Gaming Blog (ATVG), or just new to Apple TV gaming in general, or both, then the best place to get acquainted is our Best Apple TV Games of 2019 article. You’ll find a great collection of games to play, and a bunch of useful links to our previous site content. Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
