Two New Raids Coming To Shadowgun Legends In May Update

4. FAME

Update: Madfinger Games announced Friday night that the big content update has been delayed until the end of May, and instead pushed out a smaller update last week to pave the way for the bigger one, squashing a bunch of bugs. Delays are never fun, but I’d rather be able to play the two new raids smoothly than receive a broken update. Silver lining folks. Read on for ATVG’s original piece detailing what you can now expect towards the end of the month.

Original Story:

MMOs are a marathon, not a sprint.

They constantly evolve over time, growing with each new update as they’re balanced and tweaked, with studios shifting focus and pivoting as player-feedback helps to guide these complex machines with many moving parts.

We recently dropped our full review of Shadowgun Legends from Madfinger Games, and while it has its flaws, ATVG highly recommends you add this excellent sci-fi FPS MMO to your Apple TV gaming library. For the price of entry, which is nothing, you’ll get a hell of a lot of game.

And there’s more on the way.

The constant tweaking and balancing will always be a big part of any MMO, but new content will always be the most exciting for players. In Madfinger Games’ eigthteenth MADstream this week, the studio dropped a whole bunch of news about a huge slice of new content coming very soon, and we’ve boiled it down for your reading pleasure.

3 Reasons Why You Should Grab Le Parker: Sous Chef Extraordinaire

TVos_ForrestDay

There are 2D platform games that you play in order to lazily explore their beautiful, artfully designed worlds, collecting coins and uncovering secret areas at your leisure, with no real fear of death.

Then there are 2D platform games you play because they are brutally difficult, and you love a well-designed, thoughtfully crafted challenge. In these games, death comes not from a lazy implementation of mechanics by the developer, but because you simply weren’t good enough. But you know that with practice, you will be.

Le Parker: Sous Chef Extraordinaire from studio Play Pretend is a healthy mixture of both.

We’ve reviewed it before here at ATVG, and it’s just received a significant update.

Hit the page 2 button below for three reasons as to why there’s never been a better time to grab it.

Review: Shadowgun Legends – Destiny Calls

13995377_1274174192593796_2872951594015436526_o

Forging my way through to level 20 – the current level-cap in Shadowgun Legends – has been an epic journey.

I’ve seen Regis fall to his knees in The Voltaic Fist raid, lent a hand bringing Riksh’s spinning blade to a halt in The Blade Dancer, fended off waves of cannon-fodder in the Bronze and Silver Arenas, sucked at PvP, fought a massive (and ongoing) story campaign, and even formed a guild.

There’s no need to be coy about it, I’ve been enjoying the hell out of Madfinger Games’ sci-fi MMO shooter.

It’s not without its faults, and we’ll have a look at those, but along with recent releases such as VAST, Evoland 2, and Chrono Trigger, Shadowgun Legends is another shot in the arm that the Apple TV gaming platform needed. It’s big (really big), loud (sometimes too loud), and yes, it’s a lot like Destiny. But that’s all we’ll say about that, because really, what’s the point?

I could fill many pages with Destiny comparisons, but I’d rather talk about Shadowgun Legends, because Destiny doesn’t exist for the Apple TV platform, and this folks, is The Apple TV Gaming Blog.

Suffice it to say, if you own an Apple TV (fourth- or fifth-generation, either is fine) and a controller, you need SL in your life.

Diggerman Coming May 17 – A Dirty Love Story

main_000019.jpg

A few weeks back we posted our impressions of a fun little 2D platform game – Runventure – which carried with it a strong Pitfall vibe. Well today Digital Melody Games made available its next game for pre-order – Diggerman.

Diggerman also hopes to conjure some arcade nostalgia from the Atari 2600 period, putting a modern free-to-play spin on the classic Dig Dug.

Shadowgun Legends: How To Get Past The Reactor Room In Voltaic Fist

1. Key Art

18.04.18 (or possibly the 17th depending which part of the world you’re in), saw an epic battle take place. A battle that saw Regis fall to his knees, succumbing to the might of two brave Shadowguns – CaptainUg, and TOMO3151 (very catchy TOMO).

We started with three, and ended with two, but it was enough.

That however, in a nutshell, is the main problem at the moment with The Voltaic Fist raid in Shadowgun Legends: giving up and dropping out.

Due to the game’s lack of any current method of communication between players while in-game, a raid like The Voltaic Fist that requires cooperation to succeed is frustrating. There’s no point one player on the team knowing what has to be done if there’s no way of being able to communicate it to the others.

In all fairness, Madfinger Games have mentioned on social media posts that it’s investigating ways of implementing communication in-game, but until then, we need a plan we can read before going in.

So with this in mind, ATVG thought we’d share our recently learned wisdom on how to beat The Voltaic Fist raid, specifically the section in which you’ve gained access to the Reactor, and you discover the four locks that need to be switched to get through to the vault to kick Regis’ arse.

Update Roundup: A Look At Two Weeks Of Free Stuff

Screen Shot 2017-09-16 at 11.53.17 am

Free updates with new content are one of the major ways that gaming has changed in the 21st century, creating the games-as-a-service concept, rather than a one-time play through and thanks for the memories.

Over the last two weeks since Easter, some notable games on the Apple TV platform have received some pretty big updates, adding in everything from minor technical improvements, to major content additions.

We thought we’d do a roundup of the ones that caught our attention in case you’d deleted them in a housekeeping frenzy, thinking that you were done. If these games aren’t on your hard drive, then of course you won’t receive any notification that updates have been issued.

Shadowgun Legends: ATVG Now Has A Guild

8. Shadowgun Legends

The central theme of Shadowgun Legends is fortune, fame, and glory. So much so that the first thing you see when spawning into the game’s social hub is a giant statue of the current top player.

In an effort to bottle SL’s self-aggrandising, glory seeking, fame-hunting juice, and in an act of pure, unadulterated self-promotion, we thought, why not start our own guild?

Shadowgun Legends Fills A Destiny-Shaped Hole In Apple TV Gaming

13995377_1274174192593796_2872951594015436526_o

Thanks to Siniscope Gaming for the heads-up on this story.

Shadowgun Legends is not coy about its influences. If you were to trade its Shadowguns for Guardians, Torment for the Darkness, Wargames for The Crucible, Pedro for Xur, and add in the ability to crouch and jump, you would be playing Destiny.

Madfinger Games released its very Bungie-flavoured sci-fi shooter to mobile devices a couple of weeks ago, taking its spiritual predecessor and adding an extra layer of rockstar swagger, which is what sets it apart. Where Destiny is all about the melodrama and the noble fight of the Guardians, Shadowgun Legends is instead aiming for fame, glory, and fortune. It’s a nice twist to help differentiate it. A little.

In a very welcome weekend surprise, Madfinger has just added in Apple TV compatibility, so of course we did our duty and jumped in overnight to see if it’s any good.

And…is it? Well, it’s very early days, and ATVG has barely scratched the surface in what seems to be a very large package, but so far we’d have to say very cautiously…yeah.

Hell yeah.

Impressions: Kidu – Out Of Control

MUESTRA KIDU

Whenever I’m forced to use the Siri Remote to control a game on the Apple TV platform, I feel as though I’m speaking a second language; muscle memories developed over decades of holding a traditional game controller can no longer be relied upon.

The Siri Remote’s small, lightweight nature feels ideally designed for its primary use – that of navigating Apple TV’s menus and consuming media – but for gaming it feels too insubstantial in your hands as an input device.

It’s a shame to encounter these two barriers when faced with what is obviously a game that’s had a lot of care and effort poured into it.
