ATVG has a long history of following the evolution of Shadowgun Legends from Madfinger Games. Following its release, regular updates throughout 2018 and 2019 brought it ever-closer to version 1.0.0.
While having finally reached that magic number on iOS and iPadOS earlier this month, tvOS still sits on version 0.9.4, and until the update comes through, Shadowgun Legends is unplayable on Apple TV, displaying an eternal loading screen.
ATVG reached out to Madfinger Games last week to find out if the studio still intended to support its excellent sci-fi shooter on the Apple TV platform, and received a… well… I guess you could call it a response.

Update: The 0.7.5 Christmas update is out now. Enjoy.
Original Story: Is there a better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to gather in cyberspace with complete strangers and shoot each other? Probably.
Maybe we’ll take the edge off it and call it projectile tag. Or snowball fights with bullets instead of snowballs.
Peace and love notwithstanding, sci-fi shooter Shadowgun Legends is getting in early with a huge Christmas update.

Hopefully your week has been a good one, with plenty of game-time squeezed in among real life, work, study, sleep, food, and staring into space. Because sometimes you just have to stop and gaze pointlessly into the middle-distance and be. You don’t see people doing that much anymore. Usually it’s just eyes darting from screen to screen, activity to activity, with no nothing-time between the madness.
But enough of that rambling nonsense.
Hit the continue button below for a quick blast of Apple TV gaming news from the week that was.

Earlier this year, in one of its weekly live streams, MADFINGER Games laid out a road map of updates for the remainder of 2018 for Shadowgun Legends (read ATVG’s review).
Turns out it was more of a mud map than an accurate cartographical survey, as update 0.6.0 became 0.7.0, with the orange fourth planet still dangling like a giant spherical carrot, locked and waiting. 0.8.0 maybe?
New planets notwithstanding, after dropping last week update 0.7.0 has still added a bunch more content to a game that is already quite feature-rich: New weapons and armour, a raised maximum power level (270), Halloween-themed gear, a new fusion system to raise the power level of your favourite legendary items, and a shiny new Gold Arena. You can read the full patch notes right here.
Out of all the activities available in Shadowgun Legends, the Silver Arena is easily where I’ve spent most of my time, and it was exciting to see a whole new challenge waiting to be surmounted in 0.7.0.
It wasn’t easy, but today, accompanied by two other random cyber-warriors, after about an hour we cracked the lids from three hard-earned loot chests, learning along the way there are a few new obstacles on the road to gold. (Spoiler alert).

Alright, gather ’round Apple TV gamers, it’s time for a quick catch-up.
If you missed ATVG’s last shotgun blast of news, then…you’re welcome.
Between then and now, there’s also been lunar wish fulfilment, BrightRidge impressions, a Reader Rabbit revival, a look at what Apple TV and Nintendo Switch have in common, and Gameloft’s road map for Asphalt 8.
And now that you’re all caught up, here’s the news:

Update: So much for well-made plans. Soon after posting the original story below, the 0.5.2 update came through with its many bug fixes, but it seems new bugs were born as a result. Yesterday Madfinger Games released a quick hotfix to deal with those new bugs, which is now of course known as 0.5.3. Sooo…the update noted in the original story below, which I refer to as 0.5.3 – the one with the new content – is still yet to come, and will now be known as 0.5.4.
Make sense? Yep. Read on.
Original Story: This week’s Thursday night stream from Madfinger Games was a treasure trove of information, with the studio laying out a road map of updates for its excellent sci-fi FPS – Shadowgun Legends.
If you’re not yet aware of Madfinger’s very Destiny-flavoured shooter, you can get up to speed right here with ATVG’s review. If there was an option to turn off the constant action-hero one-liners such as “Damn, that hurt” and “Big ugly alien” I’d have almost nothing to complain about.
Since release, Madfinger has been rolling out updates at a steady pace, with the first big content update – 0.5.0 – bringing among a bunch of other stuff, two new raids – Brothers of Fire, and Hivemind.
0.5.1 was then rolled out a few days afterwards to fix everything that 0.5.0 broke.
And by the time you read this post, update 0.5.2 may have already landed.

May 30th. Let’s get that out of the way first, because what you really want to know is when.
ATVG previously posted a preview of the incoming content update for Shadowgun Legends, and we knew a bunch, but only the vague outlines. Late this week however, Madfinger Games has coloured in the remaining blanks by releasing the full patch notes for Shadowgun Legends version 0.5.0, releasing at the end of May. And it’s a huge update.
Originally scheduled for mid-May, it was delayed to make way for a smaller preliminary update, paving the way to the main attraction with a bunch of bug fixes. Probably a good idea.
In Madfinger’s weekly stream, we even got a peak at some gameplay video of the revamped Hub, and there’s some interesting additions. Along with a look at some of the big-ticket items coming in the 0.5.0 update, the stream is embedded over on page 2.
So as usual, hit the page 2 button below for more.
